I never clean hulls, if they have debris in them, or are corroded on the base, I just throw them away. With a break open, it is easy to glance down the bore to check for obstructions between shots, with a semi auto or a pump, it is not so easy, so I reload them one or two times and then pitch them.īe sure to use a wad that is matched to the hull in reliable loading data. I have had better success loading any Remington Hull than I have loading any of the NEW AA hulls. I buy the Gun Club ammo on sale and then reload the hulls with BP. Ive also actually had very good success reloading the Remington Gun Club Hulls. I have never had one come loose, but if it would, the results would hurt your gun or you. I try to use them mainly for the big matches where I even use new brass for my Rifle ammo. The Federals, (Gold Medal and top guns load good, but still have the old fashioned base wad. I usually reload them until they crack at the crimp petals, and that is probably 7-8 times. The Remingtons, (Nitros, STS, Gunclubs and even the black discount hulls) are one piece and load fine. I throw them away, having had too many problems with them. They are now multi piece hulls and do not hold up like the old ones. AA used to be the best, but the king is dead. These offer exceptional hull life, the best I have ever experienced. My favorite reloading 12 ga hull is the new metallic green Remington STS or gold Nitro. The AA shells were redesigned several years ago. I do agree with you that the newer AA hulls seem thinner than I remember, but I just chalked that up to a bad memory. They have never touched the ground.
These hulls are from brand-new factory shells that have gone straight from my chamber or shell-catcher to my shell pouch after firing. I really miss the old Winchester AA hulls, they were top shelf. I have for sale once-fired 12-gauge Remington Gun Club hulls.
